Making a sale
Sell at the till, take cash or MoMo, sell on credit, and give a receipt.
A sale takes stock off your shelf, records the money, and gives the customer a receipt, all in one step. Anyone on your team can make a sale: owner, branch manager or staff.
Make a sale#
Go to Sales → New sale.
- Pick the branch if you have more than one. A sale comes from one branch only.
- Search for the item by name, SKU or barcode. With a barcode scanner, scan it into the search box and the item is added.
- Check the shelf, quantity and price. The price starts at that branch's price. You can change it for this sale, or take something off a line as a discount in cedis.
- Choose the customer, or Walk-in (no customer) if they pay in full on the spot.
- Take payment. Pick Cash, MoMo, Card or Bank, and the amount. Add a reference for MoMo, card or bank payments (the MoMo transaction ID, for example). You can take part in cash and part in MoMo.
- Tap Record.
The sale gets a number like S-MAIN-000012, which is also the receipt number. Open it any time from Sales and tap View sale to see the receipt to print or share.
Selling on credit#
If the customer pays less than the total, they owe the rest. For that you must choose a customer (not walk-in). The balance shows under Debtors & creditors → Who owes you until they pay. See Customers and suppliers paying.
Things to know#
- Not enough stock: if the shelf you picked doesn't have enough, TradeBroken says so and doesn't record the sale. Check the quantity, pick another shelf, or record the missing stock first.
- Change: don't type more than the total as the payment. Take the exact amount and give change from the till.
- Selling below cost is allowed, but you'll see a warning so the person at the till knows. Only people who can see costs are told the cost.
- Giving something away for nothing (a price of 0, or a 100% discount) can only be done by the owner.
- Old dates: only the owner can record a sale for an earlier day. And nothing can be recorded in a month you've closed. See Closing the month.
- Profit: each sale remembers what the stock cost, so your profit is worked out for you in the reports.
