Adding products
Kinds of product, their details, barcodes, and the shortcuts that make adding many quick.
A product is something you sell: its name, SKU, price and details. How many you have is stock, kept per branch and shelf. Add each thing you sell once; the quantity comes in when you buy or count it.
Add a product#
Go to Products → New product.
- Pick the kind. The kinds you said you sell come first; the rest are under "More kinds". The form changes to fit: groceries ask for pack size and origin, pharmacy for strength and form, spare parts for condition and which models they fit.
- Name and SKU: the SKU is your own short code for it, like
DELL-5540. It must be unique in your shop. - Barcode: scan it with a barcode scanner, or type the number. Leave it empty if it has none.
- Category (your own groups, like "Screens") and Sold by (piece, kg, bag…). The unit follows the kind until you pick one, and is fixed once you record stock.
- The kind's details, and Brand.
- Selling price: the default for every branch. A branch can have its own price later.
Tap Create product. If something's wrong, each problem shows by its field and everything you typed stays.
One product or several?#
One product can have any quantity: ten identical Dell Latitude 5540 laptops are one product with 10 in stock. Make separate products when a buyer would ask "which one?" or pay a different price:
- different specs (8GB/256GB and 16GB/512GB),
- different condition (New, Used tested, Refurbished),
- different prices.
Shortcuts for adding many#
- Remembered choices: the kind, category and unit you used last come back on the next new product.
- Save and add another: saves and opens a fresh form, keeping the kind.
- Duplicate: on a product's page, tap Duplicate to copy it with a blank SKU and barcode. Handy for a similar model.
- Import: add many at once from a spreadsheet. See Importing from a spreadsheet.
Finding products#
Search by name, SKU or barcode, or filter by kind. At the till, scanning a barcode into the product search picks that product straight away.
Switching a product off#
Products are never deleted. Deactivate one you no longer sell: it disappears from new sales and the marketplace, and its history stays.
